Finding "Extra time" for Solopreneurs and Small Business Owners

If you are a solopreneur, (or considering becoming one) you probably didn’t become an architect or a cabinetmaker or a therapist so that you could run a business; most of us start a business so we can follow our passion. The challenge is, who provides the business support so we can do the work we love?

Entrepreneurs and solopreneurs may start out the same, each working many, many hours alone building their business or practice. One difference is the entrepreneur looks forward to delegating, hiring, expanding and managing, maybe selling. Solopreneurs tend to do most if not all of the work themselves. While do-it-yourself business gives us simplicity, control and lowers expenses, it also limits growth, time to follow our passion, expansion possibilities and a wealth of resources.

A Solopreneur’s discovery of “extra” time and increased cash flow occurs with a shift toward delegating. A scary step, letting someone else meddle in your business, hiring someone to do work on your behalf and where will the money come from to pay help? Hiring and managing and payroll Oh My! But would you hire an acupuncturist to do your bookkeeping? A lawyer to do your marketing or customer service? Is each Solopreneur really the best person for each job required of the wonderful business that functions as the backboard of her career passion?

It can start slowly, sometimes an online scheduling system can free up wonderful time for a solopreneur at the same time as increasing appointment bookings. We have seen $50-$100/month for a bookkeeper save thousands per year in time and expenses; certainly a good return on investment. If you suffer from long workdays and a never-ending to-do list, hiring out part of the workload can let you focus on the passion that inspired you to open the business in the first place. If you know how to hire.

There is a way out of requiring cash flow to afford the resources that will help increase cash flow. Business advisors worth their salt increase your cash flow beyond the costs of their services (ROI). The Change Foundry can teach and help you structure your business so that it supports you and not the other way around.
